The Experience
Discover the traditional “slip casting” technique that has been passed down in Hasami, Nagasaki for over 400 years.
At the local workshop “Fujita Ikkomi,” you will experience the process of shaping ceramics by pouring liquid clay into a mold under the guidance of a skilled craftsman.
In addition, you will paint your own ceramic magnet made from clay derived from Shiratake-yama in Nakao-yama, creating a one-of-a-kind piece to take home as a souvenir.
The piece you cast during the experience will be passed on to the next participant, creating a unique cycle of craftsmanship that gently connects people—an experience unique to Hasami.
At the end of the experience, you will receive a “Hasami Ware Craft Master Certificate,” a special keepsake to remember your journey.
Afterward, take a relaxing stroll through Nakao-yama, a charming pottery village where artisans live and work. Explore old climbing kiln ruins, galleries, and the atmosphere of Hasami ware woven into everyday life.
