Hasami Town in Nagasaki is a pottery town with over 400 years of history.

During the Edo period, Hasami ware became widely known through everyday items such as “Kurawanka bowls,” supporting daily life across Japan. Since the Meiji era, the town has developed mass production techniques for practical ceramics, spreading its reputation nationwide. Among these, the “slip casting” method has played a key role in creating the diverse shapes and production scale of Hasami ware.

This experience takes place at “Fujita Ikkomi,” a workshop that continues to preserve this traditional technique.

You will paint your own original cat-shaped ceramic piece made using slip casting, creating a one-of-a-kind work. You will also experience the slip casting process yourself by pouring clay into a mold.

The piece you decorate will be delivered to your home as a souvenir. The piece you cast will be passed on to the next participant, who will complete it—creating a unique cycle of craftsmanship that connects people through Hasami ware.
