The Experience

Surrounded by the sea, Saikai City in Nagasaki developed pressed sushi from traditional methods of preserving fish. The culture of sugar introduced through international trade—known as the “Sugar Road”—has shaped its distinctive flavor.In this experience, you will learn about the region’s unique background while making traditional pressed sushi using a wooden mold. Through cooking, this approximately 60-minute program offers a chance to experience Nagasaki’s history, trade heritage, and everyday life.
