In this experience, you will explore the Fuefuki district—the heart of the island—on a guided walking tour, discovering the history and daily life of Ojika as you stroll along its quiet paths.
Fuefuki serves as both the gateway and the center of local life, with a history dating back to the Jomon period. During the Edo period, it prospered through whaling, and later through abalone trade in the Meiji and Taisho eras. Traces of this rich past remain today in its traditional wooden houses, narrow alleys, and nostalgic streetscapes.
Rather than simply visiting tourist spots, this tour invites you to walk through the everyday life of the island. As you move through local paths and settlements, you will experience the rhythm of life and the passage of time unique to Ojika.
Along the way, you will visit Shinkosha Printing, the island’s only printing company. In this workshop, which has supported the community for over 100 years, you will experience traditional letterpress printing and create your own original piece using authentic tools and type.
